If you have ever heard that the phrase “fear not” appears 365 times in the bible, it does not. This is BS. It is amazing how many times I have heard this and have actually tried to verify it. I never could, but also never have I confronted someone who said it once I learned this is not to be true. People sound stupid when they misquote supposed facts as truth. It really lessens credibility. I hate when preachers do this. I also hate when they claim to look something up in the Greek Text. Most of them have no idea that they are actually referring to is a compilation of the Greek manuscripts that were assembled by a couple of occultists who engaged in ghost hunting and séances among other questionable activities. Of course, all of this is a story for another day.
I looked up the phrase “fear not” in Greek. μη φοβάσαι (mi fovásai). I can not really read or pronounce this, but I did learn something interesting while looking this up. The word: φόβος (fóvos) also phobos, is the personification of fear in Greek mythology. Phobos is not really referred to as a god or being, but more the personification of fear. Here is what Wikipedia has to say about him:
“In Classical Greek mythology, Phobos is more of a personification of the fear brought by war and does not appear as a character in any myths.”
He is related to all of the other Greek gods, but he is only a “personification” of fear. This is really interesting on a lot of levels. First of all, the good things like Love, Thunder and War get titles, deity and some pretty kick ass statues. But Fear (its relative) is a mere personification of some abstract idea, not a real dude. I could go on and on about this but what I draw from this is that Fear likes to fly beneath the radar. He has gone along undetected as a mere idea for thousands of years. I guess Phobos wants us to believe that he or she is really just a mere suggestion of existence that you really must take on to give it any meaning. How convenient! So fear has led us to believe that it does not really exist in the physical world unless you give him your attention…or until you are so scared that you crap your shorts.
In the coming days, I will be providing the pros and cons of the concept of Phobos being real or a mere suggestion. This will give us a strategy for giving him the finger! Ph*** Phobos!
